Autism Speaks is dedicated to creating an inclusive world for all individuals with autism throughout their lifespan. They do this through advocacy, services, supports, research and innovation, and advances in care for autistic individuals and their families.

FOR SERVICES IN NEW YORK :

Step 1Office for People With Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD) is responsible for coordinating services for New Yorkers with developmental disabilities, including intellectual disabilities, cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, autism spectrum disorders, Prader-Willi syndrome and other neurological impairments. It provides services directly and through a network of approximately 500 nonprofit service providing agencies, with about 80 percent of services provided by the private nonprofits and 20 percent provided by state-run services. Step 2The Care Coordination Organization (CCO) provides an overview of enrollment and care planning information for individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities receiving OPWDD services. There are seven CCOs operating across New York State. CCO Care Management is required for enrollment into OPWDD’s Home and Community Based Services (HCBS) Waiver.

Step 3Family Support Services (FSS) programs are developed across the state in collaboration with individuals, family members, advocates, nonprofit providers,
and government leaders. They are funded by NYS OPWDD and provided to families by non-profit service provider agencies that
have contracts with OPWDD to provide these services. Examples of FSS that families receive include: Advocacy, Behavioral
Support, Family Reimbursement, Family Counseling and Training, Information and Referral, Recreation, Respite.. (866) 946-9733

Step 4 – Choose between Service Providers that covers your area (See the two examples listed below)

AIM Services, provides residential and community-based supports to people with developmental and intellectual disabilities, including those with traumatic brain injuries and those who are looking for nursing home transition or diversion. Our services are provided in Saratoga, Warren, and Washington County, and our Self-Direction program services reaches the Capital District, Long Island, Taconic, Hudson, and Sunmount regions. Living Resources‘ services are individualized and offered in a variety of settings from 60+ residential housing arrangements, site-based services, college programs; day opportunities, arts, community volunteering, supported employment, afterschool programs, counseling services, and so much more.
